Pennsylvania Common Core Standards were formally adopted July 2, 2010 by the Pennsylvania State Board of Education with full implementation in the 2013-2014 school year. In May 2013 the Governor paused implementation and released their own document, known as the Pennsylvania Core Standards, which they call a hybrid between the national Common Core and the state’s own guidelines.

Pennsylvania joined the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) in 2011. In 2013 the state announced it was withdrawing from the tests. The state has since switched to the Pennsylvania System of School Assessments (DRC).
